DEMOCRTIC is a long term project that aims at promoting youth active citizenship and boosting young people’s involvement in the democratic process at local, regional and European level. It will gather young people from 12 organizations from Spain, Poland, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Romania. Democritic is realised with the support of the European Commission through Youth in Action Programme.

WHY?
The rate of non-participation in the last European Parliament elections makes us think about the lack of active citizenship among young people at all levels: from local to European one.

WHAT IS THIS FOR?
DEMOCRITIC was born to drive young people to become the main characters of their own lives and to let them make the most of all the resources they can reach, promoting active citizenship and social participation.

HOW?
Through three seminars, based on non formal education and dealing with: youth participation, European resources, EU organization and structure, youth work, Public organization that represent us, key words: democracy and participation, being “democritic” in your daily life, the new challenges of 21st century, the struggle against organized crime etc.

WHERE AND WHEN?

San Sebastián, Spain 7-13 of May 2010

Kraków, Poland September 2010 (dates still to be confirmed)

Naples, Italy December 2010 (dates still to be confirmed)

The three courses will share a common aim (to encourage youth participation and active citizenship) and a similar structure. Some workshops and sessions (such as “Key words: Democracy and active participation”, “strategies to improve youth participation”, etc.) will be presented in every seminar. Nevertheless, each event will deal with a specific issue: “cultural barriers in a border-free Europe” in San Sebastian; “East-West dialogue” in Kraków and “the struggle against organized crime” in Naples.

INFO ABOUT THE TRAINING COURSE IN SAN SEBASTIAN
The seminar aims at developing competences of active citizenship and youth participation and promoting democratic values. In particular, it will focus on knocking down cultural barriers and stimulating intercultural dialogue.

Training sessions will be based on non formal education and will include round tables, group discussions and workshops about: democracy and participation, EU organization and structure, being “democritic” in your daily life, new challenges of 21st century and much more.

The participants will have the chance to prepare a real strategy to encourage youth participation and to try it in the real world (practical activity “on the ground”).

WHO IS IT ADDRESSED TO?
The project is addressed to young people (not over 30) interested in youth participation and democratic life that are looking forward to know Europe close up.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
In order to take part in the first seminar (San Sebastián, 7-13 of May 2010), please fill in the application form here until the 8th of March 2010.

PRACTICAL INFO

Participation fee: 30€

Meals and lodging will be provided by the organization team and the participants will get a reimbursement of the 70% of travel costs based on presentation of relevant invoices and choise of economic routes (IInd class railways, economy airfare, etc. )

I heard before about Baraka, and for long time I was trying to attend their projects but I was never selected. In the same time with the TC in Tirana I supposed to take care for another Youth in Action Project in Crimean Peninsula but beeing accepted to this TC in Tirana, with Baraka made me cancelled my plans.
I didn`t have experience in Human Rights, but after this Training Course I can say my knowledges regarding this subject are improved thank to the great workshops we had there. The thing I love the most was that durring the activities project we were involved in lot`s of activities which stimulate our creativity, our sense of humor and our knolegdes about the causes and major efects of the wrong things that happens in the world. We try to solve some of them at least in some immortalised “Human Pictures” witch we disscus at the Albanian National Television.
Of course, when you are involved in this kind of projects you have some expectation, I have at least. I always wish to meet new people, to learn new things from them, to discover not only the personality they have but also waht they represent. Beside gain informations about the topic of the project I also want to discover the culture of the involved countries. Ususlly I have great expectations regarding the host country and this time, Albania exceed my expectations. The people I met are verry worm, willing to help you and to make you feel great. One night I was out with 3 albanians, and the time we had togheter was one of my best moments, because I felt them verry close to me even we know eachother only for 2 days. The Albanians, also have a great spirit, they put a lot of heart in what they do, even if it`s just for a walk, or a dance, or a great project like this TC was. Beside the people, the Albanian place I saw, Tirana make fulfilled my expectations. The city was verry active, but not only because there was a lot of cars and the traffic; there was a lot of people in the streets, walking, runing, smiling. The shops were busy, the streets, the parc, the pubs and also the clubs. The city was alive, not only because of the people, the buildinds in the city are the main reason. Everywhere you turn your head you see on the buildings drawn flowers in bright colours, or trees, dots and even a drawn string with underwears. )
From Tirana I came back with a lot of positive energy, with new and interresting perspectives regarding Human Rights, with memories, great friends, and partners for some future projects.
Thank you Baraka for giving me the opportunity to meet such great people, such good dancers and verry good Human Rights promoters! And thank you “Albania Children Today” ( Femijet sot) for having this project, witch from my point of view was a succes!

Festivalul este parte a proiectului ” Europe for all? Raising Youth awareness on European Citizenship and Second Generation Immigrants”realizat cu sprijinul financiar al Fundatiei Anna Lindh for Dialogue Between Cultures si al Comisiei Europene prin programul Tineret in Actiune.
